Despite the linear route, this is a beautiful and varied walk alongside the impressive Umbalfalle waterfall to the Clarahütte, with great close-up views of the Umbalkees Glacier.

Getting There: From Matrei, follow the Virgental to the hamlet of Hinterbichi at its head. Either park in the village, or continue along a well-surfaced road to the car park at Ströden (Euro 5.50 per day)
